Volunteer write-up: EnDIEronment!

The environment is in a struggle now. Every day, people have been finding ways to take care of nature but at the same time, we are also the primary reason why the environment is deteriorating in the first place. We must find a way to keep our environment safe and lessen our negative impact on what we must consider our one and only home.
Climate change, global warming, and other environmental problems are some of today’s issues that the whole world is affected by. Fortunately, countries have been making plans to end these problems. Many laws have been implemented to stop people from throwing garbage everywhere, to prevent illegal logging, to implement proper waste disposal, and many more. But the problems don’t seem to go away, at least not anytime soon.
All of us have contributed to the destruction of nature. We use plastics and throw them away, and we continue to make more. Some countries now use paper bags instead of plastic bags. But it may contribute to more trees being cut down. There is irony behind cutting down trees to make signs that say “stop cutting trees.” Though the fact is we needed paper for work, school, and others; to cut down trees for our use, we might be overdoing it because of our increasing population.
Another thing to think about is to how we could prevent pollution in our air, land, and water. We need these elements to live but we continue to poison them. We pollute the air with smoke from our vehicles and from burning leaves. We pollute our waters though improper garbage disposal and runoff to the rivers. We pollute our lands by taking away its minerals through illegal mining; the chemicals seeping into the ground. All of this affects us though disease and poisoning since what we give to nature, nature eventually gives back to us.
All of the terrible happenings and catastrophe in the environment can be prevented. There are organizations and groups whose purpose is to save the environment. They promote clean up drives and seminars to prevent further damage to the environment. They show us ways on how we can preserve our common home. But all of the changes needed to save this unique planet starts with every one of us. We can prevent further damage by participating with environmental organizations and help with their activities. We can discipline ourselves to throw our garbage properly through segregatation, conserve energy, and implement the three Rs ourselves: reduce, reuse, and recycle.
If we cooperate and participate in these acts, we can help as one whole nation to save the environment. We can save it by disciplining ourselves, thinking about what is best for everyone and not just for ourselves. Saving the environment in the present means saving the next generation in the future.
