Every species, no matter how small or remote, plays a vital role in keeping the planet in balance. When one disappears, the ripple effects reach far beyond its habitat – disrupting food chains, changing landscapes, and affecting the communities that depend on nature for water, food, and shelter.
Their presence or decline reflects the condition of forests, rivers, and coasts that humans also rely on. When hornbills, pigeons, or coral reefs begin to vanish, it signals that the ecosystems providing our air, water, and food are in danger too. Protecting them means protecting ourselves.
Through the Species of Hope Program, Haribon restores habitats, empowers local communities, and safeguards threatened species such as the Negros Bleeding-heart Pigeon, the Kalaw, and the Dulungan. These species serve as indicators of the health of our forests – and symbols of resilience for the people who help them survive. By saving them, we heal the ecosystems that give life to us all.
