The Arcadia/BirdLife Conservation Partnership Fund

The Arcadia/BirdLife Conservation Partnership Fund supports the building of conservation capacity at the national level by supporting a network of conservation NGOs to better protect key species, sites and habitats.

The objective of this project is to build conservation capacity at the national level by supporting a network of conservation NGOs to better protect key species, sites and habitats.

Latest updates from the field

With support from Arcadia/BirdLife, Haribon continued to strengthen its partnerships with local communities. Due to Haribon’s on-going conservation work in the Municipality of General Nakar, the LGU issued a “Resolution 2014-140 Recognizing Haribon Foundation for Conservation of Natural Resources Incorporated as an Organization Existing in General Nakar, Quezon for Conservation and Protection of Environment”.

This would facilitate the implementation of project activities for Forest of HOPE (Harmony of People and Environment) where initial coordination was conducted with the provincial office of the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) for the proposed conservation projects in the area.

In the same period, Haribon presented a poster during the Research and Development Congress for Migratory Birds and Wetlands within the East-Asian Australasian Flyway in Lapu-lapu City. Four sites were monitored during the migratory bird season from October 2014 to March 2015. Recorded threatened species include the Chinese Egret in Olango Island, Baer’s Pochard in Candaba, Tufted Ducks in Naujan Lake, Philippine Duck in Las Piňas-Paraňaque Critical Habitat and Ecotourism Area (LPPCHEA).

In 2015, Haribon participated in a workshop in London examining methods and impacts of nature conservation. As the fund aims to strengthen the local conservation capacity of Haribon, it crafted the formation of its 2016-2020 Strategic Plan in 2015. Attendance to fund raising seminars and in-house mini-workshops were conducted to build Haribon’s capability in raising corporate funds.

Fund raising campaigns were undertaken for the conservation of Globally Threatened Species (GTS) and Important Bird and Birding Areas (IBBA). The Haribon Legacy for Nature (HaLe Nature) program and the Species of Hope program were launched to raise funds to cover new sites.

Haribon formulated a 5-year Forest of HOPE Strategic Plan particularly in Mt. Irid-Angelo Important Bird Biodiversity/Key Biodiversity Area. The organization also integrated a model on natural resource conservation, women, indigenous peoples and sustainable livelihood in its “Community- based Resource Management (CBRM) Framework”.

As Haribon continues to expand its network with the scientific community it participated in the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Asia Regional Conference Forum, in Bangkok. Haribon was also invited to participate in the Philippine RED list committee on terrestrial and wetland birds.
