Monitoring of reefs and sediment in Lanuza Bay MPAs


This report reviews bio-waste accumulation and biodiversity affected by human activity. It also reviews the measurement of heavy metal-ion concentration in seafloor sediments, which lower pH content and heavily degrades coral reef systems in high concentration.

Results show that fish concentrations and diversity were both generally higher inside MPA’s than outside them. Additionally, there is an elevated level of chromium near Carrascal large scale mining operations. LGU’s in Lanuza Bay and the Mine and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) of DENR Caraga should investigate further and take necessary actions.
