"Ang Philippine Tree Squirrel" (Poem in Filipino)

By Dr. JD Agapito

Squirrel is an animal with fur.
It is included in the Class Mammalia. It is
Phylum Chordata if it is extended
. Subphylum Vertebrata to be more complete.

Order Rodentia is the next category
and the family is called Sciuridae
Because of the medium sized sill
But there is an endemic that only lives here

Squirrel because there are different types or types
But our focus here is Philippine Tree squirrel
Palawan Red tailed, Southern or Northern Tree squirrel is also called
Bising locally and  Sundasciurus philippinensis  if scientists

It can be seen in various places in the country
Palawan, Samar, Bohol, Leyte, Dinagat, Basilan
Siargao or in other places in the village
But let's mention that it is endemic

Its size is six inches.
Its tail is almost the same size.
Its fur is not that thick
compared to the squirrels seen in other countries.

The color of the fur is light red
So it's easy to see this animal
It has 2 pairs of teeth above and below
It's sharp so be careful with its bite

Known to be active and said to be a pest
Because of their constant gnawing,
their passion is fruits and nuts, so
it's a big problem on farms

So this type of squirrel lives in trees.
In the woods and sometimes in the mangroves, it can be seen.
Especially when the tide is low, it can be seen. It is
active, elusive and sensitive to noise.

If we are talking about a state on the red list,
Least concern or the number is not worrisome
, but it should not be the basis
that we should not protect the Philippine Tree Squirrel
